The race that sort of wasn't

By now, if you're a fan of Formula 1, you are intimately familiar with the debacle at Indy this year, where only six cars competed. If not, well, it's really to painful for me to describe.

At least the picture taking was pretty good. Most of these came from way up in the stands across from the pits, during practice sessions.

Who would have guessed a rare Ferrari would attract a crowd at an F1 race?

The pagoda they built when F1 came to Indy is actually a sort of modern reinterpretation of a similar structure that was there many years ago. Note the yard of bricks.

This is obviously not a race pit stop, but the real thing has nearly the same number of mechanics out there at once.

The eventual winner Michael Schumacher, argueably the most dominant driver in the history of motorsport.

Massa will drive for Ferrari next year. I expect he'll do well.

Alonso will probably win the championship this year.

Button seems to be having one of his poor years, which means he'll be great in '06, if the pattern holds.

Coulthard has a surprisingly good chance of staying in F1 now. I sort of wrote him off before this season, but with Ferrari engines next year, who knows what he might come up with?

Raikonen will likely be second in the championship this year. He's been the fastest this year, but the Mercedes engine has really let him down way too many times.

In spite of the sad circumstances, Monteiro seemed overjoyed to get his first points at this race.

I don't think Ralph Schumacher will be around a lot longer. The Toyota is definitely improving, but I can't really say the same for Ralph. Of course, the terrible crashes he's had at Indy are no help.

I must say, Weber has been a bit of a disspointment as well. I think he'll be competitive if he ever gets into a good car, but the Williams is just not there right now.

A lot of us felt this way, but this guy was pretty obnoxious about it.
