Some Simple 3D Pics

I took some of these shots at Devil's Tower early in May, and the others at Monticello later in the month. They were made with an inexpensive stereo attachment for my digital SLR. I've had a similar attachment for my 35mm SLR for a couple years, but going digital makes them a whole lot easier to share. I also have a 35mm point-and-shoot stereo camera that I'll probably get rid of when we come off the road.

You need a special viewer to see these things with the 3D effect. Send me an e-mail if you want one, and I'll mail one to you. The only cost me about a buck each, so I don't mind just giving them away to friends and family. I have to warn you though that many people either can't see in stereo, or react unhappily to it. I'm not sure what sort of psycho-optical phenomena is responsible for that, but just be aware that not everyone cares for this kind of photography.

Devil's Tower

This is the way it looks on the road into the park.

Devil's Tower 2

It's amazing how different the thing looks from other locations, or in different light. This was only taken an hour or two from that first shot.

Monticello, Classic View

Like you haven't seen a 3D pic of Monticello before: Just take a look at your typical nickel!

Nice Lawn

View from Thomas Jefferson's back porch. Apparently, the foundation that owns Monticello recently bought that hill in the distance (to protect this view) for about $15 million, same thing Tom paid for the Louisiana Purchase. Talk about inflation...

Barking Prarie Dog

I once saw one of these for sale at a pet store in Tokyo. What were they thinking? I could barely stand the noise long enough to make this picture.
